Staffers at Frailey Insurance and Financial Services in Stroudsburg are asking the public to help collect teddy bears. During the months of March through May, teddy bears (12” or less in height) can be dropped off at their office, 1286 N. Ninth St. and the Pocono Township Police Department, 110 Township Drive in Tannersville.
“We use these teddy bears when responding to emergency situations where a child is a victim, or affected by a loved one being a victim,” explained police Sergeant Shawn Goucher. “The bears help to comfort the children and help to gain their trust and confidence.”
“It also shows the children the officers are there to help, and reduces the emotional stress thrust upon children in a time of crisis,” added Kent J. Werkheiser, chief of police. “These bears have become so important that they are part of the standard equipment that the officers carry every day.”
