Newly displayed at the Clymer Library in Pocono Pines is an historical account of the Pocono Pines Assembly Hotels as they existed from 1910 to 1926. The resort complex became commercial after the dissolving of the Pocono Pines Assembly and Summer School patterned after the Chautauqua movement. In 1926, the properties were acquired by Lutherans as a summer resort, retreat and camp complex. Today, it is the site of Pinecrest Lake Golf & Country Club.
Shown on display are photographs of the facilities, including the hotels and recreational amenities. Accounts of summer programs and activities describe the diverse offerings of this large complex. News articles about the period report the destruction by fire of the Pocono Pines Inn, as well as the leasing of a large part of the facilities to the federal government for occupational training of military veterans after WWI.
The display has been prepared by the Historical Association of Tobyhanna Township as part of its commitment to share the history of the township.
Clymer Library is located on Firehouse Road in Pocono Pines, just off of Route 940.
