North Pocono High School student council organized its annual canned food drive for the local North Pocono Food Pantry. In 2016, they collected about 7,000 cans. This year, the students more than doubled that total, to 18,729 cans.
North Pocono students were encouraged to collect cans through a competition during Spirit Week. Many teachers also gave incentives. The senior class won the competition. The cans were loaded onto three school buses, to transport to the food pantry.
“It is humbling to see how our school and community can come together to feed those less fortunate during the holidays,” said Jenna Schmidt, student council president. “This is the spirit that makes us proud to be a part of North Pocono.”
