The mellow sounds of folk, country and bluegrass music will fill several Stroudsburg-area venues, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Jan 27, 28 and 29 as the Pocono Bluegrass & Folk Society presents the 12th annual WinterFest. On Friday, 6:30 to 9 p.m. the music can be heard at the Driebe Freight Station, 537 Ann St,, as The Lost Ramblers and Plexigrass perform. If you want to be part of a group performance, musicians will be jamming at an open mic/band contest on Friday night, and again on Saturday night in the Cedar Room of The Pocono Inne Towne, 7th and Main streets.

The centerpiece of Winterfest '12 is two all-day concerts held at the Elks Lodge, 260 Washington St., East Stroudsburg. on Saturday and Sunday, Jan 28 and 29. The shows start at noon and are held in the large auditorium on the third floor. There will be a live video hookup of the concerts in the bar area on the first floor. There are 14 bands performing at Winterfest this year. Saturday's show features The Wallace Brothers Band, a trio from the Philadelphia area. From Boston comes progressive bluegrass band Chasing Blue. Also performing Saturday will be perennial favorites Plexigrass, featuring Scott Eager, and The Lost Ramblers.

On Saturday at The Elks Lodge, the music begins at noon and runs all day with performances by Heavy Traffic, The Lost Ramblers, Mail Pouch Express, Stained Grass Window, The Wallace Brothers, Chasing Blue, Hillbilly Water and Plexigrass. Also on Saturday, there will be a show and reception at the new Shoppes, 580 Main St., featuring Earl Karlsen and Heavy Traffic.

Sunday's show will feature more traditional bluegrass artists such as Country Grass and the Water Gap Band, and the band that won the contest at the Inne Towne will also play a set. Each year, Winterfest has started the Sunday concerts with a Gospel celebration. This year the celebration will be hosted by Joe Fiola and feature a choir and music by Raven Creek and the Lost Ramblers.

There will also be mandolin, fiddlem banjo, guitar and bass guitar workshops as well as luthier workshops, along with children's programming.
