Working individuals in Monroe County are now eligible to receive transportation assistance through a new program from the Pocono Alliance. The Alliance introduced the Vehicle Assistance Program (VAP) this year in an effort to provide permanent solutions to working adults without children.
The program provides up to $1,000 toward the purchase of a car, up to $500 for car repair and up to $250 for insurance. The program also offers reimbursement for mileage and driver’s education. The Alliance created this program to ensure that individuals can continue to get to work and maintain or improve their quality of life.
The program is open to all Monroe County residents without children that meet the financial eligibility requirements. Participants must provide a Pennsylvania driver’s license and proof of household income to apply. The Alliance also provides transportation assistance for working individuals with children through the Worker’s Express program.
This program is funded by the American Reinvestment & Recovery Act (ARRA) through Monroe County’s Community Services Block Grant. For more information about the Vehicle Assistance Program, contact the Pocono Alliance at 570-517-3953.
